Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA)
Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA) allows individuals who have been ordered to leave Canada but who may face serious risk and danger if sent back to the country from which they have fled. PRRA provides an opportunity for the Canadian government to ensure that an individual is not returned to a place where they will be in serious danger or at risk of persecution. If you have been given a notice that the removal order against you is being enforced, you may be given the opportunity to apply for a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment (PRRA).
The PRRA will suspend the removal order until a decision is reached or the claim is abandoned.
A PRRA application is not available to an applicant who has withdrawn, abandoned, or received a negative decision on a refugee claim or a previous PRRA application, for a period of twelve months. The bar to PRRA is thirty-six months for the nationals of certain countries designated by the Canadian government.
If you are facing removal from Canada, you may be eligible for a Pre-Removal Risk Assessment.
