Caregivers

 

There are 3 ways an applicant can apply for permanent residence under the Caregivers program, along with the basic requirements:

1. Caring for Children Program:

  • 2 years of full-time work experience in Canada as a home child (under 18 years of age) care provider (NOC 4411) in the 4 years before applying
  • CLB 5 in English or French
  • Care in own home is allowed
  • Foster parents are not eligible

 

2. Caring For People With High Medical Needs Program:

  • 2 years of full-time work experience in Canada in the 4 years before applying as:

a) Registered nurse or psychiatric nurse (NOC 3012)
b) Licensed practical nurse (NOC 3233)
c) Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates (NOC 3413)
d) Home Support Workers and related occupations (NOC 4412)

  • CLB 5 in English or French (CLB 7 for NOC 3012)
  • NOC 2012 and 3233 must have Canadian license to practice
  • Elderly being cared for must be 65+ with disabilities, chronic or terminal illness
  • Housekeepers are not eligible

 

3. Live-in Caregiver Program

  • Has to have a Work Permit as a Live-in Caregiver (LICG)
  • 2 years of full-time work as a LICG or 3900 hrs. /22 months in the 4 years after entry (390 hours of overtime is allowed)
